Notary

What is a notary public?

A notary public is a person licensed or commissioned by a state government. In Minnesota, the Secretary of State licenses notaries public.

What does a Notary do?

If you have questions about documents and want a better, clear understanding of what you are singing before you sign it then come to Lake Tax. A notary's duty is to help the signers of important documents, screening for their true identity, their willingness to sign under their own free will, and their awareness of the contents of the document or transaction.

What does it mean to have an application notarized?

You present government-issued photo identification to the notary who verifies your identity and then watches you sign and date the application. After watching you sign and date the application, the notary will mark the application with a stamp (or a "seal") and sign the application. A notarized application shows the person who receives the application that you really signed it. Notaries are not responsible for the accuracy of the information you put on your application.
